Villa di Cambiano

Built over the medieval foundations of the Cambiano Castle, and used as a post house by Cosimo I de' Medici, the villa was occupied from the early 16th century by the Cambi, a noble Florentine family after whom the town of Cambiano is thought to have been named. The Cambi family, in whose hands the property remained until 1816, carried out renovation work in the 18th century that gave the villa a new façade and embellished the interior with decorations. The impressive driveway leading to the park gives the building a monumental aura Adjoining the villa is the church of San Prospero, records of which date back to the 12th century. The fine paintings that are now kept in the Museum of Santa Verdiana, in Castelfiorentino, come from this church.
